High Road for Human Rights - Local Chapters
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time.”
– President Barack Obama
“If I am not for myself, then who will be for me? And if I am only for myself, then what am I? And if not now, when?”
– Rabbi Hillel, Mishna Avot 1:14
Thank you for your interest in starting a High Road for Human Rights chapter in your area! In order for High Road to successfully achieve our goal of changing US policies and practices through grassroots advocacy, we must have strong, efficient, and well-organized chapters working in unison across the nation to make our voices, and our demands, heard. The purpose of a local chapter is to create a community in which members will raise their voices and push for change together through effective grassroots actions. Chapter development is crucial to High Road’s mission because, in order to bring about change, we need to put sustained pressure on all our elected representatives so none of them can ever again say, “My constituents do not care about that” or “Things would have been different if I had received letters and telephone calls from my constituents – but I didn’t.”
Responsible, committed chapter leaders are essential to the success of High Road’s strategy. Chapter leaders must be willing and able to structure and run a chapter of High Road for Human Rights, taking the initiative to grow and organize the chapter and make certain that High Road’s grassroots strategies are implemented. Responsibilities include building a constantly increasing membership base, guiding chapter members to engage in grassroots actions on a sustained basis, being creative in maintaining enthusiasm and fundraising, and keeping up good communication with and reports of progress to the national headquarters.
If you are interested in setting up and providing leadership for a High Road chapter, getting involved please check the list below to see if we have an existing chapter, or if we are in the process of developing a chapter in your area before filling out our Chapter Leader form.
