High Road Teams

High Road’s work is made possible by a large network of local teams comprised of up to 12 people who are motivated to bring about constructive change. High Road’s local teams take our message to the streets and, through sustained actions, are heard by policy makers, including elected officials. There are two types of High Road teams: one working on a variety of issues, and the other working continually on one issue.

  • Comprehensive Teams: These teams address all High Road human rights issues at various times. One month, the materials and action items may focus on labor slavery, the next month they may focus on the human rights implications of the climate crisis.
  • Focused Teams: These teams each choose one issue upon which to focus on a continual basis. That issue will be addressed through grassroots actions each and every month.

High Road members can be members of a Comprehensive Team but work solely on one issue as if they were members of a Focused Team. They will be exposed to monthly agendas and educational materials related to all of High Road’s human rights issues, but may concentrate their efforts each month on only one of those issues. For instance, a Comprehensive Team may meet and discuss the issue designated for Comprehensive Teams that month (e.g. torture), yet a member who wants to maintain focus on another issue (e.g. the death penalty) may choose to continue focusing his or her grassroots efforts on that issue, while the rest of the members work on torture that month. High Road teams:

  1. Engage Americans from all walks of life in civic actions at the grassroots level, and
  2. Bridge the gap between the internet and real people on the ground, creating human connections supported by modern technology.
As our powerful network grows, so will the changes we achieve. High Road teams engage in effective local action, leveraging the intimate energy of community that can be realized only at the grassroots level.
